Open Basic Schooling

The Open Basic Learning program by the All India Council for Open Education (AICOE) aims to provide accessible educational opportunities for out-of-school learners, especially adult learners and women, in support of the mission of Education for All (EFA).

This non-formal educational initiative offers a structured learning continuum designed to assist learners in progressing from basic literacy to foundational knowledge aligned with early primary and middle school stages. The program is divided into three levels to cater to different stages of learning:

  • Level A: Foundational literacy and numeracy skills aligned with early primary school curriculum (corresponding to Classes I to III learning stage in non-formal education).
  • Level B: Elementary learning skills aligned with upper primary school curriculum (corresponding to Classes IV and V learning stage in non- formal education).
  • Level C: Intermediate learning skills aligned with middle school curriculum (corresponding to Classes VI to VIII learning stage in non- formal education).

Please note that AICOE’s Open Basic Learning program is strictly a non-formal educational program and does not issue formal school certificates or diplomas recognized by any government education board or authority.

Certificates issued under this program are intended only as acknowledgment of learning and do not confer formal academic equivalency.
